Prince Edward Island has welcomed candidates for citizenship to work in the essential services sectors. Since special measures for coronavirus were put in place, the province has held three Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws.

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) issued invitations only to the applicants from the Express Entry pool and Labour Impact stream, who were serving in an essential service such as healthcare or trucking for these three draws. Business Impact candidates were not included in the last three draws although they are often included in PEI draws.

PEI Express Entry

The Express Entry Category of the PEI PNP is aligned with the Express Entry Process of the Canadian government, which handles the applications for economic class categories:

Candidates have to create their profiles in Express entry pool to gain Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for human capital factors such as age, job experience, education and official language skills including other factors.

To be eligible for a provincial PEI nomination, Express Entry applicants would need to create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with the PEI PNP. Provincial nomination fetches Express Entry candidates an additional 600 points towards their CRS score, with which ITA is guaranteed in the next draw. EOI profiles are given points based on the particular grid of points in the province. Then, the candidates with the highest scores are invited to apply through draws.

No information is provided on the breakdown of the number of invited candidates for Express Entry and Labor impact streams, nor the minimum EOI score needed for each category by PEI PNP for this draw.

Labour Impact Category

This category is for foreign nationals who have a legitimate work offer in PEI, and are sponsored by their employer.

This stream is divided into three streams:

·         Skilled Worker,

·         Critical Worker and

·         Graduate International.

Candidates in this category were also invited in the previous three draws,

In order to be eligible for a provincial nomination via the Labor Impact Category, candidates in this category must also submit an EOI profile.

Business Impact Category

None of the invitations was issued under Business Impact: Work Permit Stream. Work permit stream is intended for entrepreneurs who wish to own and operate a business in the PEI province.
