The Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) started the year with a Provincial Nominee Class (PNP) specific draw. It means that the candidates who have secured nominations through Provincial Nominee Programs were only considered for this draw. The new draw held on January 6, 2021.
Candidates who had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking Score of 813 have received invitations to apply (ITA’s). A total of 250 candidates received invitations in this draw.
IRCC had conducted 10 PNP specific draws in 2020. In total 4785 candidates had received invitations in those draws. Most of the PNP specific draws in 2020 were followed by the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws.
In 2020, immigration admissions were slowed down due to the global pandemic and made it difficult for many Express Entry hopefuls to collect the documents that are required to apply. Despite all this, Canada continued to issue year-round Express Entry invitations.
Immigration targets-2021
The government of Canada sets the targets every year to allow new immigrants. The government provides an opportunity for the public, provinces and territories as well as organizations that help immigrants settle in Canada. It even allows them to give feedback on the targets before the finalization of the targets.
Canada’s target is to welcome 401,000 immigrants in 2021. Among them, around 60 % of the admissions are through economic classes. These categories will help the Canadian economy recover from the pandemic.
Further, next year i.e. in 2022, Canada expects to welcome 411,000 immigrants and 421,000 immigrants in 2023.
