Australian Student Visa Regulations Revised

The increased scrutiny of students’ reapplications for Australian student visas, which could result in a longer stay, means that candidates from other countries will need to get higher marks on English proficiency examinations. Students must now achieve an IELTS score of 6.5 overall and 6.0 for graduate-level coursework. They must attain a total of 6.0 to enroll in undergraduate classes.
Working Hours Modification: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Australia has loosened its working hour’s regulations for overseas students. A change was made this year, though, to the working hours that overseas students are required to work. Students can no longer work more than 24 hours per week while attending school, following the new regulations.
The new educational requirements recognize degrees earned in India in Australia and degrees earned in Australia in India.
The Australian government will replace the temporary skill shortage visa with a new program called the skills in demand visa.
Temporary Graduate Visa: Graduates will be permitted to stay in Australia with Temporary Graduate Visa for:
Bachelor’s degree takes two years (stays the same)
The Master’s degree program is now 2 years long, down from 3 years.
3 years for Masters by research (no change)
PhD program lengthened from 4 years to 3
The New Requirement for Students
It used to be that overseas students had to take the GTE Australia test, which stands for Genuine Temporary Entrant. Foreign students’ sincere intentions to seek a high-quality education in Australia were verified by the GTE. A personal statement of no more than 300 words, a questionnaire, and even interviews were all components of the evaluation.
All student visa applications to Australia will be subject to the new Genuine Student requirement (GS) beginning March 23, 2024. As of October 1, 2023, the amount of money that students and their families need has been changed. Starting October 1, people who want to apply for an Australian student visa will have to show proof that they can pay for the trip.
