You are not alone if you are a student and have chosen to put off your higher foreign education plans because of COVID-19. The pandemic has thrown off aspirants’ well-laid plans around the globe. But the decision to place your education and career opportunities on hold may not be correct. Particularly, when there is no confirmed end date for the pandemic.
So, if your goal is to gain international education and qualifications to help you become a globally employable professional in a world full of uncertainties, we think seriously revisiting that decision and studying in the United Kingdom is worthwhile.
The United Kingdom is geared to safely welcome international students in many ways. Here is why we suggest applying in 2020-21 to study in the UK:
Safety and Health
There are second waves, tighter restrictions, and local lockdowns in many countries across the globe. In the United Kingdom, universities contribute to the global initiative to control the virus and find a vaccine. At the same time, they welcome students and staff back to a high-quality, world-leading educational experience. UK universities are well prepared and have comprehensive strategies in place to make sure that students can live and study in a healthy atmosphere.
The UK Government has issued COVID-19 guidelines for the cleaning of non-healthcare settings. It includes areas such as student accommodation and other community spaces. Further, UK universities are putting in place steps to ensure that campuses are sanitized and comply with all health and safety guidelines in accordance with the new government advice.
Covid-19 support programs that international students can use have been introduced by UK universities, such as airport pickup services, support during any self-isolation time, and food packages. UK universities are actually moving beyond physical wellbeing and are keen to help the emotional well-being of students as well. Online support groups are also provided to students across universities and schools.
Graduate Immigration Route (GIR) and Student Route
If you are planning to study in the UK but unable to decide because of this uncertainty, you may want to capitalize on the Graduate Immigration Route (GIR) and Student Route opportunities.
The Home Office plans to launch a new Graduate route in the summer of 2021. This route enables foreign students to apply for a post-study visa.
From the summer of 2021, after successfully completing their degree programs, all foreign students will be able to stay in the UK for up to two years to work and to look for work. Ph.D. completed students will be granted 3 years visa through this new Graduate Pathway. The doctorate Extension Scheme will be replaced with the new route. This helps students, to gain substantial work experience in the country.
For all undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in a degree course in 2020, the Graduate Route is open. The GIR will also be available to the students who start face-to-face courses online and arrive on campus in the UK by 6 April 2021. The visa procedure for foreign students has also been streamlined by the UK government.
UK’S coveted academic experience
The United Kingdom is home to 28 of the world’s top 200 universities. ( Times Higher Education World University Rankings-2020). It includes 4 of the world’s top 10 universities. (Tthe QS World University Rankings-2020). Because of its academic excellence and world-renowned faculty and experts, foreign students flock to the UK.
The skepticism about not having the authentic experience is one explanation for students deciding in current times against a foreign education. The fear, at least in the case of the UK, maybe misplaced. Most UK universities have now begun to offer physical classes on campuses (97 percent, UUKi) adhering to strict measures of social distancing norms.
UK degrees are of a high global standard. They are beneficial in whatever type they take, whether they are delivered in person or have online elements. 83% of foreign graduates earn their UK degree to help them get a career (International Graduate Outcomes, UUKi). So, you will be valued by employers and scholars from all over the globe by acquiring a prestigious UK education.
Usually, the Master’s programs in the United Kingdom are for 12 months, compared to similar programs in other countries that are double the time. UK graduates are among the most employable in the world, given the global reputation and recognition by employers for UK qualifications.
There are also several scholarships on offer for talented Indian students. GREAT scholarships, the India Chevening program, Charles Wallace India Trust scholarships, and many scholarships directly offered by universities and colleges.
