Immigration pilot program aimed to bring foreign talent to communities in Ontario now accepts applications
There is a new pathway program available for potential Ontario Immigrants to apply for permanent residence. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is currently accepting applications under Regional Immigration Pilot.
Candidates must meet the conditions for either of the OINP Employer Job Offer streams in order to be eligible to apply. Candidates will need full-time and permanent job offers from employers based in one of three communities in Ontario:
- Chatham-Kent
- Cornwall
- Quinte West/Belleville
Nearly 150 applications for candidates intended for these communities in the two-year project. The OINP also does marketing and outreach to raise awareness among local employers and to provide support for business services.
The pilot's goal is to connect highly skilled immigrants with employment in small and rural communities throughout Ontario. Due to their unique labor problems and their willingness to help immigrants get settled, these particular locations were chosen among other factors.
Employer Job Offer: Eligibility Criteria
As the name suggests, candidates in Ontario need a work offer to be considered for one of the streams mentioned below. Candidates need not to be present physically in Canada to apply for this Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Three streams of the Employer Job offer category:
- Foreign worker Stream, for the skilled;
- International Student stream, for Post-Secondary Ontario graduates;
- In-demand Skills stream, for jobs in particular industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, trucking and staff support.
Applicants must complete an intake form and contact the OINP to apply for the pilot program.
